Storm #1 brought a dusting to a couple of inches of snow to the metro as expected early today with higher amounts to the south. We will see a short break tonight into Saturday with storm #2 on the way for Sunday. Based on the lastest information we are in line for moderate accumulations from Sunday Morning through Monday Morning. The National Weather Service has already posted Winter Storm Watches from Omaha south to KC and southwest to Wichita. There are a lot of questions with this storm…mainly with the storm path and available moisture. I believe the storm will be potent enough and there will be enough moisture for significant snow across at least the south half of the viewing area. That means from Omaha to the south will have the best shot of several inches of snow. Stay tuned through the weekend for the latest information.

Our latest weather maker is coming across the Plains tonight with snow and rain through parts of Kansas and Nebraska. This system looks to be stronger than what the models indicated 24hrs ago, which means most spots will see at least some accumulating snow. Here in Omaha we can expect at least 1″ to 2″ late tonight into the first part of Friday. Amounts around an inch or so will be possible across the northern counties with as much as 2″ to 4″ just south of Omaha by midday Friday. Temperatures will not be all that cold and the wind will stay under control with this system. Be advised that slick spots will develop for the morning drive Friday.

Even though temperatures have been running a bit below normal this week it hasn’t been brutally cold. In fact we have even seen some sunshine the last couple of days! Temperatures will be consistent with highs through the weekend ranging from the upper 20s and low 30s with lows in the teens. As far as snow goes, a few flurries will be possible Friday with a better chance of snow late Saturday into Sunday. Much like the last several storms this month the heaviest snow appears to be south of Omaha as of right now. I do expect some light accumulation of snow on Sunday so stay tuned.

Another wave of snow is headed down the Missouri River Sunday Evening. We had all kinds of problems today with wind and snow and at times part of I-29 and I-80 had to be closed. As light snow moves in we will see similar conditions with blowing snow and reduced visibilites The snow will generally be light with an inch or less expected. Conditions should improve as we head through Monday Afternoon although it will remain cold for President’s Day.

The last week has featured some very cold temperatures and bursts of light snow. The active weather has been along the subtropical jetstream over the last 7 to 10 days. With major storms evolving in the Central and Southern Plains and slamming the East Coast. Another storm has been intensifing over Texas today and once again will head to the Eastern Seaboard. Highs will hang in the lower 30s Friday and Saturday with next system bringing changes through the weekend. We will have some flurries tonight and a better chance of light snow and flurries will return Saturday and Sunday. Light accumulations are expected but it will be turning colder with plenty of wind Saturday Night into Sunday. In fact, temperatures will be in the teens most of the day Sunday.
